Tips for Backyard Entertaining
During the summer season, there's nothing better than a great backyard party. At Liquidseat, we are proponents of throwing a great backyard bash, and we do our best to prevent any backyard party missteps. So here are a few basic tips to make sure that your backyard party goes off without a hitch.
Food & Drinks
Whether its a soiree, birthday blowout, or quiet outdoor get together, you've got to provide ample amounts of both food and drink for your guests. There are an endless amount of options, but nothing really beats a hot grill, a cooler full of drinks - both for kids and adults - and plenty of games nearby to play. For those who don't have access to a grill, you can prep cold foods like salad, guacamole, chips and dip, and plenty more to serve as a nice snack.
Tips
- For cold foods, you can serve them on a foil tray filled with ice to keep them fresh, especially greens
- For hot food, use the same foil pans to cover them, trapping in the heat, and preventing them from exposure to flies and other outdoor pests
- For drinks, koozies and an iced down cooler are a must
- Disposable plates, utensils, and plenty of napkins are crucial to keeping required post-party dish time
Entertainment & Accommodations
You don't want your guests to get bored or complacent at your party, so be sure provide them with plenty of entertainment options. A great selection of board games is a safe bet for guests of all ages. Everything from Monopoly, to Sorry, to the adult-themed Cards Against Humanity make for great ways to kill a few hours on the back porch. Music is also a must. There are great outdoor speaker options available with iPhone and Android connections for easy use. For the most part, the kiddos are going to be hanging out in the pool, so be sure to keep plenty of towels on hand so they don't get water everywhere and soak your guests.
Tips
- A plastic pool hutch is a good place to stash pool toys and games on the cheap and reduce outdoor clutter
- If you have a shallow pool, installing a volleyball net is a great addition to any backyard environment
- Be sure to accommodate both kids and adults.
